
The S500 and S800 series are families of high-performance miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) designed for industrial and heavy-duty electrical distribution systems. They serve as protection devices in distribution boards, safeguarding circuits against overloads and short circuits with exceptional breaking capacity. The S500 MCBs are compact current-limiting breakers typically rated up to 63 A, with breaking capacities around 10–25 kA at 480 VAC (IEC). The S800 MCBs are larger profile breakers for higher ratings – up to 125 A – and feature extremely high breaking capacities (up to 50 kA @ 400 VAC / 25 kA @ 690 VAC) for demanding applications. Both series offer a range of trip characteristics (B, C, D, K, etc.) to match different load types and inrush profiles. These MCBs are DIN-rail mountable and compatible with ABB's System pro M compact® panelboards and comb-busbar systems, making installation in distribution cabinets straightforward. They are modular in width (S500 in 17.5 mm single-pole modules, S800 slightly wider) and allow for multi-pole assembly (1–4 poles). The devices have dual connection terminals for ease of wiring and can accommodate accessories like auxiliary contacts, alarm switches, and shunt trips. With robust construction, the S500/S800 series is vibration-resistant and suitable for harsh environments (both series are certified for use in marine and offshore installations). These breakers carry global approvals (IEC 60947-2 for industrial circuit breakers, UL 1077 for supplementary protectors, etc.) and are ideal for protecting feeders and critical branch circuits in industries like oil & gas, mining, renewable energy (e.g. solar PV strings with S800PV variants up to 1200 V DC), and other installations requiring reliable, high-capacity circuit protection.
