TK681 Communication Cable

The TK681 is a communication cable used to connect ABB CP600 series operator panels (HMIs) to AC500 V2 PLCs for programming and data communication. It is a 3-meter RS-232 serial cable with a 9-pin D-sub connector on each end (female to male), specifically wired for CP600 programming port to AC500 PLC serial port connection. This cable enables the transfer of HMI project data (created in Panel Builder) to the CP600 panel and also allows the HMI to act as a programming gateway to the PLC or exchange data via serial Modbus/CS31 if configured. The TK681 is designed to fit ABB's device pinouts: one end mates with the CP600 panel's 9-pin RS-232 port, and the other end with the AC500 CPU's RS-232 programming port (both standard D-sub connections). Constructed with shielding, the cable ensures reliable communication by minimizing EMI interference in industrial environments. It has thumbscrew locks on the connectors to secure the connection against vibration. The TK681 is part of ABB's accessory line, making commissioning more convenient – engineers use it to download HMI applications or for troubleshooting communication between the HMI and PLC. The wide availability of this cable (no active electronics inside) and its plug-and-play nature provide a cost-effective and easy solution for interfacing operator panels with controllers during setup or maintenance.
